Avery 5160 is a 1" x 2-5/8" address label, 30 to a US Letter sheet. Avery's own 5160 template page lists 48 other product numbers that use the exact same template, from 5136 to 95915 plus two Presta numbers. If your box shows any of those numbers, the 5160 layout will line up with your sheet.
Below is that list, sorted so you can find your number fast, plus what "compatible" does and does not tell you.
What size is Avery 5160?
Here are the basics, taken from Avery's 5160 and 8160 template pages (checked October 23, 2026):
| Detail | Avery 5160 |
|---|---|
| Label size | 1" x 2-5/8" (about 25.4 x 66.7 mm, our conversion) |
| Labels per sheet | 30 |
| Sheet | 8-1/2" x 11" (US Letter) |
| Color on template page | White |
| Printer type | Laser, per Avery's 8160 page (the 5160 page itself does not say) |
| Typical use | Address labels |
| Blank downloads | Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PDF, Apple Pages |
The 30 labels sit in three columns of ten. That layout is why "30 labels per sheet" and "5160" are often used as if they mean the same thing. They don't quite: other brands and other Avery families can also fit 30 to a sheet in a different size. Go by the number, not the count.
Every number Avery lists as 5160-compatible

Avery's 8160 page shows the same family the other way round: 5160 appears in its list, and the rest of the numbers match. So whichever of these numbers you start from, you land on the same layout.
A few lookups people search for often:
- Avery 48460: on the list. Use the 5160 template.
- Avery 18160: on the list. Use the 5160 template.
- Avery 5960: on the list. Use the 5160 template.
- Avery 8460: on the list. Use the 5160 template.
- Avery 5162: not on the list. 5162 is a different size (1-1/3" x 4", 14 per sheet). See our address and return label sizes guide.
If your number is not here, it is not on Avery's 5160 list. Look it up on Avery's template search, or check our templates hub.
Avery 5160 vs 8160: what is the difference?
Avery's 8160 page states the difference plainly: 8160 labels are made for inkjet printers, and 5160 labels are made for laser printers. The size, the 30-up layout and the template are the same.
That matters more than it sounds. Laser printers fuse toner with heat. Inkjet printers spray liquid ink that has to soak in or dry on the surface. A label made for one may not behave well in the other. Avery doesn't say exactly what goes wrong, so we won't either. The safe rule is simple: match the label to your printer type, then use the shared template.
| Avery 5160 | Avery 8160 | |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 1" x 2-5/8" | 1" x 2-5/8" |
| Per sheet | 30 | 30 |
| Template | Same | Same |
| Printer type (per Avery's 8160 page) | Laser | Inkjet |
What "compatible" means, and what it doesn't
Avery's 5160 page explains why its templates are tied to product numbers: the template keeps the spacing and margins matched to your labels, not just the label size. That is the whole promise. Two labels can both be 1" x 2-5/8" and still sit in different places on the sheet. A template built for one can then drift on the other.
So a number on the 5160 list tells you:
- The labels are the same size.
- They sit in the same positions on the sheet.
- The 5160 template file will line up.
It does not tell you:
- Whether the sheet is for laser or inkjet printers.
- Whether the face is white, clear, matte, glossy or colored.
- Whether the adhesive is permanent or removable.
- Whether the label holds up to water, freezing or sunlight.
Those details are on the package, not on the template page. Read the box before you print a full run.
Where to get the 5160 template
Avery's 5160 page offers free blank downloads in six formats:
- Microsoft Word (.doc)
- Adobe Photoshop (.psd)
- Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
- Adobe InDesign (.indd)
- Adobe PDF (.pdf)
- Apple Pages (.pages)
It also offers Avery Design & Print Online, a browser tool where you can start from a blank or pre-designed template.
Google Docs isn't listed as a download on the 5160 page. If you work in Google Docs, the PDF works as a print guide. You can also open the Word file, but check the layout carefully after conversion. A converted table can shift by a fraction of an inch, which is enough to clip a line of text on a 1-inch label.
Worked example: printing a mailing list on 5160-family labels
Say you have 95 addresses and a pack of Avery 18160 labels.
- Confirm the family. 18160 is on Avery's 5160 list, so download the 5160 template.
- Count sheets. 95 addresses divided by 30 per sheet is 3.17. You need four sheets. The last sheet will use 5 of its 30 labels.
- Check the text fits. A 1-inch-tall label is 72 points tall (1 inch = 72 points). Four lines of 10-point type with normal line spacing take up roughly 48 points, which leaves room for the template's inner margins. Five lines is tight. Our return address label guide works through this for smaller labels too.
- Print a test page on plain paper at 100% scale, then hold it against a label sheet up to a window. If the text sits inside every label, print on the real sheets.
- Feed carefully. Avery's help pages suggest feeding label sheets one at a time if your printer pulls more than one. Keep the unused labels on the last sheet flat and dry.
If the test page is off, the cause is usually a scaling setting rather than the template. Our label alignment fix guide walks through Avery's own troubleshooting steps.
Avery 5160 vs other small address labels
People who search for 5160 equivalents are often really asking, "is there a bigger or smaller version?" Here are the nearby Avery sizes, all from Avery template pages checked October 23, 2026:
| Template | Size | Per sheet | Avery's use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5167 | 1/2" x 1-3/4" | 80 | Return address |
| 5195 | 2/3" x 1-3/4" | 60 | Return address |
| 5160 | 1" x 2-5/8" | 30 | Address |
| 5162 | 1-1/3" x 4" | 14 | Address and ID |
| 5163 | 2" x 4" | 10 | Shipping |
If you need more room for a logo or a longer address, 5162 gives you a wider label. For packages, see our Avery shipping label sizes guide.
Can you print 5160 labels on A4 paper?
No. 5160 sheets are US Letter (8-1/2" x 11"). A4 paper is 210 x 297 mm, which is slightly narrower and taller, so the 5160 layout will not line up on an A4 sheet. We have not yet verified which A4 label sheet is closest to 5160, so we are not naming one here.
The more common problem is the other way round: a printer or PDF viewer set to A4 while US Letter labels are loaded. Avery's printer settings help page says to set the paper size to 8.5" x 11" for most US products and to print at 100% or Actual Size.
What to check before you act
- Find your product number on the package and confirm it is on the list above.
- Check the box for laser or inkjet, and match it to your printer.
- Download the 5160 template from Avery, not a re-uploaded copy.
- Set paper size to Letter and scale to 100% or Actual Size.
- Print one plain-paper test sheet and hold it against a label sheet before using real labels.
