How we check facts
Sources we use
- Template specs: the maker's own template page for that number (for Avery, avery.com/templates/<number>). We record the size, labels per sheet, listed uses, download formats and compatible numbers exactly as listed, and the date we checked.
- Canadian food labeling: the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) industry labelling pages, and the Food and Drug Regulations and Safe Food for Canadians Regulations on the Justice Laws Website.
- Carriers: the carrier's own help pages (UPS, USPS and others), dated.
We don't use seller cross-reference charts as a source. Several have errors.
What "not yet verified" means
If a value isn't published on the source page we checked, such as label margins, gaps or printer type, we write "not yet verified" instead of filling it in from memory or a reseller. We add it once we can source it.
Our own arithmetic
Metric conversions (1 inch = 25.4 mm), decimals, label areas and text-line estimates are our calculations and are labeled "our conversion" or "our math". Sheet drawings show a full layout only when the layout is stated by the maker or fixed by the sheet size; otherwise we draw a single label at scale.
What we won't do
- Sell, rank or recommend label brands, sellers or printers.
- Recommend the owner's label shop, or any shop.
- Imply that we speak for Avery, CFIA or any carrier.
- Give legal advice. Our food labeling pages are general information; check your product with CFIA.
- Publish invented reviews, testimonials or experts.
Corrections
If a size, number or rule is wrong or out of date, tell us. We check it against the source and fix confirmed errors, noting material corrections on the page.
